Bringing Classical Training to the Southwest

Founded as a nonprofit in early 2026, Scottsdale Atelier draws on the classically trained background of it’s instructors to offer education previously unaccessible to the Southwest. It’s mission is to elevate the already vibrant art community by giving individuals the tools to achieve realism to marriage to their creativity.

The drawing and painting curriculum are intensive. Working from casts, master copies, observation, and models, students are trained to connect the techniques of the past to their observations. Under the guidance of professional artists working in the field of realism, studies become focused, more in depth, and have lasting impact.

The Thesis Year. Aside from a detailed classical training program, Scottsdale Atelier offers a thesis year. Students, with the aid of instructors, combine the knowledge from their studies and focus on creating finished works. World building, technology, and scaling, among other topics, are taught to students as they develop works that prepare them for a career in the arts.

An art school in paradise. More and more people are drawn to the Phoenix Valley area each year, and it’s easy to see why. Climate, culture, and ease of life make it a top destination, especially during the dates school is in session. Combined with access to world class museums and galleries, this makes Scottsdale Atelier a gem in the desert.

A 501c3 school with ambition. Although providing the highest quality drawing and painting education is a top priority, Scottsdale Atelier is also focused on engagement. Bringing the arts to the community, interacting with the existing global arts community, and creating strong institutional connections help to position Scottsdale Atelier as a leader in the Arts.
